DESIGN STUDIO SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

STAGE 1 SITE ANALYSIS
Exercise 1: Investigating the Geography and History of the Place through notated sketches/site plans and sections
Assessment criteria
• Evidence of research and clarity of analysis: geography, landscape, history
• Ability to articulate and represent the themes of Reciprocity, Grid System, Threshold and Materiality
• Ability to articulate and represent local characteristics of the selected site
• Clarity of architectural representation. [visual and verbal representation]

STAGE 2: RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS
Exercise 2: Research and analysis of the following Pavilions using Parti Analytical Diagrams

• evidence of utilizing the parti as a series of formal and geometric relations

• evidence of spatial analysis through two and three dimensional analytical diagrams (enclosure, program, circulation, structure, geometry)

STAGE 3: CONCEPT DESIGN/PRELIMINARY DESIGN
Exercise #3: Conceptual and Preliminary design for a travelling and a permanent pavilion.

• evidence/ability of architecture investigation and imagination at a conceptual level

• evidence/ability of architecture investigation and imagination at a conceptual level
• evidence/ability of architecture investigation and imagination at a preliminary level
• evidence of defining a narrative for your activities and inhabitation
Visual Literacy
• evidence of using appropriate types of architectural representation
Craft Practices
• a high level of craft evident in the model making

STAGE 4 SCHEMATIC DESIGN
Exercise #4: Presentation of schematic design
Intent: clearly demonstrate at a schematic level the architectural character of the two pavilions and their relationship with the context and the site between the water edge and the land; show how the different activities of the two pavilions relate to each other.

How has the narrative What event for the City of Lake Macquarie? been defined into a developed program?
Design Inquiry
• clarity of design strategy in response to site, brief and type
• evidence of architecture investigation and imagination at a schematic level for the travelling pavilion and the permanent pavilion
How ingenious and imaginative is the organization of:

• Circulation and spatial sequence of activities inside the pavilions

A Travelling Pavilion and a Permanent Pavilion for the City of Lake Macquarie
